Reorganization of work environment increases efficiency

Gahanna Division of Police Communications

Project: 5S of Police Dispatch Center

• Project resulted from LeanOhio Boot Camp

• Contact: Lt. Jeff Spence · · 614-342-4240

Obsolete or unnecessary supplies and resources within the Dispatch Center’s small workspace created clutter and reduced operational efficiency

Improve productivity and reduce waste by eliminating unused supplies and moving infrequently used supplies out of the common area

A 5S event was initiated - employees were given a time frame in which they could use Post-It notes to flag items that they did not use. The employees initialed their individual notes, and dates were placed on them to indicate a time of last use.

• Removed items or moved them to a different area of the department where they would be utilized (implemented)

• Process reduced clutter and improved the work environment, increasing efficiency and work flow in the dispatch center (implemented)
